NBA 2K27 Dribble Moves Guide
NBA 2K27 dribble moves let you choose individual parts of an attack, from the first size-up to the escape that sets up your shot. A short combo that gets a defender moving is more useful than spending the possession repeating an animation in front of them.
You can unlock dribbling animations with Internal, available through our NBA 2K27 cheats. The next step is choosing movements you can use together while still watching the defender and the teammate waiting for a pass.
Choosing your dribble animations
Start with how you normally receive the ball. Bringing it up the court gives you different space from catching a pass on the wing with a defender close by. Choose your opening movement around the situation you see most often.
Creating space means leaving room for the next pass, drive or jumper. Watch where an animation finishes, especially near the sideline. Moving away from one defender is less useful if you end beside another or leave yourself no room to continue.
Keep a small set of familiar moves while learning their transitions. You need to recognise the end of the first movement without staring at your player. That leaves you free to watch whether the defender follows, backs off or steps across your exit.
Starting with a size-up
A signature size-up begins an attack from a standstill. Use the movement to watch the defender's reaction, then leave towards the space they give you. Repeating it after a driving lane has opened can let the defender recover.
Breakdown combos add another way to begin that exchange. Learn where the ball finishes and which direction you can move next. The animation should leave you ready to attack, rather than waiting to remember the next input.
Dribble timing matters when you move out of the opening animation. Practise a single exit until it feels familiar, then add an alternative for the other side. You do not need a long sequence to punish a defender who commits too early.
Dribbling while moving up the court
Moving breakdown combos start with your player already travelling. Watch the space ahead before changing direction. A move that works with an empty lane may take you straight into traffic when a teammate cuts across it.
The moving between legs crossover is a separate movement you can select. Pay attention to the direction you leave it in. Switching hands is useful when it gives you a better route past the defender, but it should still lead somewhere.
A behind-the-back launch gives you another movement to practise as you attack. Work on the exit with a clear lane first, then watch where help defence would meet you in a match. Be ready to pass if a second defender steps across.
Escaping a close defender
A crossover escape can help change the direction of an attack when a defender crowds you. Check which side has room before using it. Near the sideline, the same movement can leave you with less space than you started with.
With a hesitation escape, watch whether the defender slows or keeps moving. The next action should follow that reaction. If you already have room to shoot, adding another move gives the defender more time to close it.
The between legs escape and behind-the-back escape are also selected separately. Try each from the side of the court where you usually handle the ball. Judge the final position and the shot or pass available from it.
Stepbacks for a jumper
A lateral stepback changes the angle of your attack. Look beside your player before using it, particularly when a teammate is stationed on the wing. You need somewhere to land and room to begin the jumper.
A stepback crossover adds a change of direction to that decision. If the defender follows the first movement, the next opening may be a drive. If they retreat, you may already have the distance needed to stop and shoot.
Practise both endings instead of always shooting after the same move. A defender who starts waiting for your jumper can make the drive more useful. The animation helps create the opening, but you still choose how to use it.
Spins and triple-threat moves
A moving cross spin can carry you away from the first defender and towards another. Look beyond the player directly in front of you before committing. Spinning into a crowded paint gives you fewer choices when the movement finishes.
Triple-threat style applies earlier, when you have caught the ball and are preparing to attack. Watch the defender before beginning your dribble. A defender leaning towards one side may leave the other route open straight away.
Those starting positions deserve separate practice. Receiving a pass on the wing lets you read the floor before moving, while an attack begun at speed gives you less time. Use a first move you can recognise in each situation.
Ball Handle and Speed With Ball
Ball Handle is one of the player ratings you can change in Internal. The selected animation is separate from that rating, so adjust one at a time if you want to understand how your player feels after a change.
Speed With Ball is another attribute in the cheat. It applies to a different part of the player, which is why changing it should not be treated as choosing a new crossover. Our NBA 2K27 Attributes Changer guide explains the wider rating controls.
Unlock All Animations gives you access to the animation selection. It does not guarantee that a defender will stumble whenever you use one. For the other unlock categories, see our NBA 2K27 Unlock All guide.
Putting a short combo together
Dribble combinations are easier to use when you know where to stop. Begin with one opening movement and one exit. Practise turning that exit into a pass as well as a shot so you can react when help defence arrives.
Repeat the sequence from both sides of the court. A drive towards the middle gives you different passing angles from one towards the baseline. The same inputs can leave you facing different traffic depending on where you begin.
Knowing when to pass
Beating the first defender is often what draws the second one towards you. Look for the teammate that defender has left. A quick pass uses the opening before the defence has time to recover.
If the original defender stays balanced and the lane remains closed, you can move the ball without finishing the combo. The purpose of the dribble is to create an opening for the possession. You do not have to complete every planned movement before making the next decision.
Dribbling questions
Can I choose each dribble movement separately?
NBA 2K27 separates signature dribbling into individual movement categories. You can choose different size-ups, moving combos and escapes rather than treating them as one animation.
What combo should I practise first?
Start with one move from a standstill and one exit. Learn to turn the exit into a drive, shot or pass before extending the sequence.
Do unlocked animations guarantee ankle breakers?
No. The defender's position and movement still affect the play. An unlocked animation gives you a movement to select, not a guaranteed reaction from an opponent.
Why do I run into help defence after a crossover?
Look beyond the first defender before leaving the move. If another player is waiting in the lane, the pass to the teammate they left may be the better next action.
